SuccessfullInitiatives 171 The assemblies followed more or less the same format as the conventions of the Association. Several teachers gave presentations which the audience was invited to comment upon. There were also discussions on practical matters such as: “What is the best way to make children attend school?” (TR), “Summer holidays” (TR), “Should one give more attention to the pupil who is less intelligent than to one who is more intelligent?” (TR). Report of a regional assembly held in Mont Carmel in 1900. On the invitation of Mr. Emmanuel Arsenault, president of the Mont Carmel section, the teachers met at the Mont Carmel School on Saturday, the 17th of this month. The following were present: Father Arsenault, Messrs. André Doiron, Nazaire Poirier, Emmanuel Arsenault, Bruno Martin, Mathurin Gallant, teachers, and a host of ratepayers who, by their very presence, showed they are interested in education. Mr. Jean J. Gallant presided. The following subjects were examined: 1. Studying lessons under parents’ guidance . The advantages of regular attendance and the disastrous conse- quences of irregular attendance . The respect that parents and children owe the teacher Hygiene . Cleanliness . The monthly visit by the trustees . Care of books, etc. N NAWAYW Father Arsenault, Messrs. André Doiron, Bruno Martin and Em. Arse- nault spoke to the assembly. Their speeches were greatly appreciated by all and certainly did not fail to produce the desired effect. After the subjects had been examined sufficently, a vote of thanks was given to Mr. André Doiron for his active part in the meeting.
