The Acadians constitute [...] about one seventh of the population. The Island sends eight representatives to Ottawa, four senators and four members of Parliament. Therefore in all fairness there should be a representative of the Acadian race. Besides, the Senate was created to facilitate the representation of minorities, all the more reason to let an Acadian in, given the fact that they are scattered in the various ridings and cannot elect a member to the Commons. At the provincial level from 1894 onwards the Acadians in Prince County succeeded in electing two of their candidates to the Legislative Assembly. Their members are from the constituencies of First and
