Father William Phelan, an Irish priest in Arichat (N.S.), received permission to serve the Acadian regions, but the Acadians in Malpeque do not appear to have appreciated him. They preferred to bring in, at their own expense, Father LeRoux from Memramcook. He stayed with them on several occasions between 1786 and 1788. Finally, after insisting, the Island Acadians were visited by Father Ledru (in charge of the missions in St. Mary’s Bay, N.S.) towards the end of 1786.
