days, but travel, sports, and even skating by children.32

The Irish are well known for their love of the sport of horse racing, so it is not surprising that the early settlers made it part of community life. There is very little infor— mation available except that racing was held for two days in September, 1851, on the Anderson Road at South West.33 This represents one of the first horse—racing events in P.E.I. The sport would continue and grow in the follow- ing decades, especially in the 1870s and 18805, in the Kinkora community.
