ties, and from donations. One of the donors, Dr. Michael Wall, gave $1,000.00; he is memoralized by a large monu- ment in the church cemetery.‘5

The church has been kept in good condition by the volunteered work and financial support of its parishioners. No major structural changes were made to the building until the 1960s. As a result of some liturgical changes required by the Second Vatican Council, the com- munion rail and preacher’s pulpit were removed. In the

19805 this church is a tourist attraction, as an example of

the work of architect, William Harris, and for its “unusual” eight-sided crossing at the transept.7

The new church was only the first of several developments in the five communities during the first decade of the twentieth century. Farmers in the area form— ed a dairy association in 1895, but it was not until 1901 that they decided to operate their own cheese factory. The minutes of the Kinkora Dairying Association for December 26, 1900, reprinted here, explain how the deci- sions to form a dairy cooperative and build a new factory were made.
