REPORT OF MUSIC COMMITTEE While the Music Committee has nothing to boast about in the way of accomplishments during the past year, as a unit in itself, yet it is roud of its re- lation to such an Organization as the choir and its talented and efficient leader-— Professor W. E. Fletcher. We believe that next to the ministers, it ranks in its Influence for good u on the congregations that from Sunday to Sunday gather for worship. Not a one does the Music Committee a preciate and enjo the high class musical service that we are receiving, but we lieve the whole c urch is of the same appreciative spirit, and is proud of the fact that we have in Pro- fessor Fletcher one who is not only of the highest order as a leader and organist, but also of undoubted and marked ability as a composer of music, as has been well attested b the delight with which his several anthems have been received in recent mont s. We would here also refer with pride to the faithful attendance of the choir, not only at the church services, but, as the Chairman of the Music Committee, Mr. Hutcheson, informs me, at the practices through the week, where great loyalty and promptness is manifested. On September 19th a concert was given by the choir, assisted by Mr. Robert Messervey and Mr. Ben Wagner, and was greatly enjoyed. Mr. Earl Spicer also assisted in the choir singing in January, to the delight of Charlotte- town music lovers. , Our Thanksgiving and Christmas music should also be referred to as of really high order. Professor Fletcher had it in his mind and heart, Ibelieve, to put on the ”Crucifixion" on Good Friday evening, but circumstances would not ermit. P Reference might here be made to the two social functions held during the year, the annual choir picnic, held at Cavendish; and the choir banquet held re- cent}y in the social hall of the United Church, where I am sure, on both occasions, the mest spirit prevailed. The year just closed has been a fairly successful one; Regular sessions have been held, the whole year round, with an attendance ranging from a mini- mum of 115 in mid-summer, to a maximum of 551, the average for the whole ear being 374. In addition to its regular work, the S. S. has an organized ome Dept of 64 members, under the leadership of Mrs.W.A. Huestis, which receives every week Sunday School literature for study at home. Then there is the Cradle Roll department under the leadership of Miss Louise Lawson, whose duty it is to keep in touch with the babies and ittle ones of the congregation, until the are old enough to enter the Sunday School; 154 children are now enrolled. T is brings the grand total of members in all depart- ments to 834. ' In addition to these activities, there is under the jurisdiction of the school, a well organized Y. P. S. presided over by Mr. Wm. Rowe which holds meetings weekly, and is rendering a splendid and much needed service to our young ple. From 400 to 500 papers are distributed every Sunday to the Scholars, aides hundreds of helps for lesson study, and in addition to all this the scholars have the use of a library containing over 1100 volumes. Total moneys raised by the school last year, amounted to $1538. Of this sum $602.00 were subscribed to the missionary enterprises of our church. One of the outstanding activities of the school last season was the Teach~ ers trainin class, conducted by Dr. Ramsay. These lectures have roven most helpful an inspiring to the teachers, and can hardly fail to elevate t e standards of our teaching. Now I have .kept the best till the last. You will be well pleased to know, that as a result of the faithful work of our Pastors and teachers, upwards of 40 of our boys and girls have openly avowed themselves as followers of Jesus Christ. To brin about such results, must ever be the ultimate aim of every consecrated Sun ay School worker. Respectfully submitted G. F. HUTCHESON Charlottetown, P. E. 1. April 20, 1927
