”59% 3 “if? / Z A? « A REPORT OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL T a the Member: and Adherent; of Trinity Uniled Church— On the occasion of our Annual Meeting, it gives me much pleasure to submit a brief report of the Sunday School and its work for your consideration and, I hope, approval. I should like to begin by emphasizing the tremendously im rtant posi- tion which the school occ ies in relation to the church. It is the Bibi; School of the Church, where your ys and girls, and many others, receive religious training and spiritual direction, fitting them to become the future leaders in church and state. The leaders of our Churches are awake as never before, to the latent possibilities of Sunday School work, and through the agency of the Religious Education Council, and interdenominational organizations are successfully labouring to raise S. S. standards and increase their efficiency. In our own school, we are keenl conscious of the fact that, while a splen- did work is we believe being accomplished, there is large opportunity for de- velopment in efiiciency, and numbers. And here I want to ex ress a preciation of the splendid work our Pastors are doing, in discovering, yes iteral y discover- ing, many children and families roperly belongin to this church, but who have never been identified with it. These names are eing carefully tabulated, and when completed, this work should add largely to our membership. And what are we to do with these additions to our membershi ? Already many of our classes are overcrowded, and should be divided, whfie other classes are com- pelled to meet in the o n auditorium making effective class work almost im- possible. I feel that t e time has come when the problem of increasing our accommodation should be faced. We have a staff of 12 ofiicers, and 54 teachers, as fine a body of teachers I am convinced, both in ability and faithful services, as could be found anywhere. The average attendance of our teaching staff, excepting during the summer season, was nearly 52. The average school attendance for the nine months just ended was 555, Xhile the largest was 551 on November 20th last, and the smallest 91, on 7th of ugust. The missionary activities of the School have been splendid] maintained under the leadership of Dr. Ayers and his committee, who arrange an interest- ing rogram once a amonth throughout the term. Our total offerings for t e nine months reached the splendid sums of $452.00 and $650.00 for missions and current expenses respectively. The Home Dept. of which Mrs. W. A. Huestis is Supt., has a membership now of 61, and the Cradle Roll, under Miss Laura Hughes leadership has about 85. During the month of July last, a Bible Vacation School was held here, St. Paul’s and the Baptist Schools co-operating. This school was, I think, the first of its kind held on the Island. The daily attendance averaged 72, and the promoters feel I think that for a beginning it was quite a success and well worth the expenditures involved. Respectfully submitted, G. F. HUTCHESON, Superintendent. These are diwded as usual into two departments; the Seniors meet on Tuesday evenings, and the Intermediates, on Monday afternoons. The Seniors are diVided into four ups under the very efficient leadership of the Misses Lillian MacKenzie, Erselyn MacEwen, Dorothy Lawson and Christine Macdonald. The Inter- mediates also are divided into four grou s and are led most capablfilb‘i Mrs. Gordon Hughes, Mrs. J. Curran, Mrs. Wilgred Taylor and Miss He en .emin. Since October we have raised $56.00, which was contributed to m1§slons through the Sunday School. Five of our groups contributed Christmas dinners and toys to needy amilies, and another group sent a generous donation of Christ- mas stockings to the Santa Pals Club of the Guardian. The expenses of_the_se dinners, etc., as well as of the purchase of supplies for our various actiVities have been met by the different groups. . With such a large, enthusiastic attendance at our weekly meetings, we have high hopes for a successful year’s work. Respectfully submitted: NELLIE G. ROWE; Supt. Sift and Intermediate C. G. I. T.
