New Book

CAPE EGMONT Last week,'at the Centre Goeland, some fifty people attended the launching of the new book entitled ‘‘COMPLAINTES ACADIENNES DE L’ILE-DU- PRINCE*EDOUARD (Acadiän Ballads of Prince Edward! Island) written by Mr. Georges Arsenault.

The Master of Ceremonies for the occasion was Mr. Donald Arsenault. He first introduced Mrs. Jeanne- Mance Arsenault, President of the Cercle Culturel Evangeline which was responsible for organizing the launching.

Reverend Father Eloi Arsenault officially launched the new book and this was a rather touching moment as he is a direct descendant of Julitte Arsenault, author of

one of the ballads in the book dealing with the exodus of the Acadians from Malpeque Bay.

The Author, Mr. Arsenault, thanked all those present as well as all those who assisted

him in gathering the necessary information to publish such a text. He

outlined the amount of research involved in this type of undertaking. He also nee out the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Jean Finnegan of Rôgersville, N.B. Mr. Fin- negan is the grand-son of Laurent Doucette, the author of the plaintive ballad entitled ‘Jerome Maillet’’ which was written in 1892 and is widely known throughout the Maritimes. Mr. Arsenault’s resource- persons, then sang the second (1976) of two ballads that she composed herself: ‘‘Le noyade de Francis Arsenault”’. (The-drowning of Francis Arsenault). Mrs, Maddix also entértained with other renditions.
