     Well, the girls got going and the Long-Toothed Mother sent up the golden moon by the 
     
     chimney. Little Jack was on guard. He grabbed the golden moon, hid it behind him and ran to 
     
     the king's castle. 
     
    
   
   
    
     The girls came back with their bucket of water. The Long-Toothed Mother waited for the 
     
     golden moon, but it didn't come back. She became very angry. She said: 
     
    
   
   
    
     “T think that Little Jack has been around and he has played a trick on me. He is like that.” 
     
     Well, the king still wasn't satisfied. He said: 
     
    
   
   
    
     “The Long-Toothed Mother has a golden winding reel. I would like to have that winding 
     
     reel.” 
     
    
   
   
    
     “Well, I could try” said Little Jack. 
     
    

    
     So, Little Jack did the same thing. He took a bag of salt and he went to hide near the 
     
     chimney. When the Long-Tooth Mother cooked porridge for breakfast, he again threw the salt 
     
     in, and the same thing happened. 
     
    
   
   
    
     In the evening, she said to her daughters: 
     
    
   
   
    
     “Go fetch some water. Tonight, take the golden winding reel and hold it in your arms and 
     
     don't let go of it.” 
     
    
   
   
    
     As for Little Jack, he was still hiding. When the girls went by, he struck the girl carrying 
     
     the golden winding reel on the arm with a wooden stick and grabbed the instrument and ran 
     
     away with it. The girls started yelling. The Long-Toothed Mother heard them and went to meet 
     
     them. She said: 
     
    
   
   
    
     “Well, it is still my little devil who did that, my bad little boy. I will catch him one day and 
     
     scrunch him under my long tooth!” 
     
    
   
   
    
     The king was still not content. He said: 
     
    

    
     “The Long-Toothed Mother has a golden sheet on her bed and I would like to have it.” 
     
    

    
     Well, Little Jack got going. 
     
    

    
     The next day, the same thing happened. He again poured salt in the porridge. In the 
     
     evening, when it was time to fetch water at the fountain, the Long-Tooth Mother said to her 
     
     daughters: 
     
    
   
   
    
     “You are not fit to go to the fountain alone. I will accompany you tonight.”
