UMMERSIDE, the Capital of Prince S County, and the second largest town in Prince Edward Island, has many interesting features. It is perhaps better known to-day from the fact that it is the world centre of the fox-raising industry. It is by no mere chance that it occupies that pre-eminent position for here the industry was cradled, here was formed the first commercial fox company in all Canada, and here are to be seen those wonderful animals which have time and again car- ried off world-championship honors at all the leading exhibitions of Canada and the _ United States. Somebody well stated that more foxes can be found in the environs _of Summerside than in all the rest of Prince Edward Island combined, and among them more prize-winning foxes than can be found anywhere else on the continent. Naturally in view of all this the headquarters of the Canadian Nationai Silver Fox Breeders’ Association has its location here.

The town has other industries not so far famed but which are solidly established and give steady employment to a con- siderable number of residents. These in- clude a sash and door factory, a flour mill, lobster and poultry canneries and cold storage plant, also establishments for the manufacturing of grain-threshing-and- cleaning machinery and ready-made fox pens and crates; a foundry, a shoe fac- tory, printing and book-binding plants, co- operage and harness making establish- ments, monumental works, egg and poul- try grading establishment, tin-smithing, laundries, bakeries and an ice-cream plant.

The population of Summerside is about 3,300. It is on the C.N.R. line of railway with C.N.R. telegraph office situated in a bright new railway station, and has three good hotels—the Clifton, the Queen and the Silver Fox Inn. It has seven churches,
