Now and thon, my mother took me on @ marketing expedition, but I greatly preferred the occasions when she was engaged solely on a shopping mission. The Market House, for all of its glamor and bustle, quickly became bore~ some, and I was always glad to escape from it. After TF had become acaaecoeyrt with the city streets, i used to ramble about on mycown; gaping at the Sights, peering atnthe toy and candy displays, or visiting with one or “the other of my two aunts who jived in Charlottetown. Those days provided material to be recalled, described, and dwelt upon in the days and hdd that followed. But, regardless of all the pleasurable excitement ane the novelty, it was always good, when the shadows began to lengthen, to head for the familiar sights and sounds of home.

No doubt, we envied the city youngsters their summer schoolavaca tions, . and their freedom from the/thet took so much of our out-of-school time, but I am certain that none of us would have willingly changed places with them. And, while we were aware that city people were as a rule much more stylishly dressed than the farmers -=— ac"country fellow" never quite looked as though he belonged in his "good" suit -- the knowledge troubled ‘us not at all. AS a matter of fact, it was our firm belief that we and our style of life were infinitely superior to the townsfolk and theirs. -

Rural living had its disadvantages, but they were outweighed by its benefite. Unfortunately, some of those benefits we did not fully appreciate until we had cast off the ties of home and were struggling to make our own

way in the outside world.
