In the local branch, she had served as president, secretary-treasurer and organist. During the early years of the organization, Blanche provided leadership with music
and sing-alongs, an integral part to the monthly meetings.
Provincially, she had been the president of the District Convention on two occasions and had a four-year term as the United Nations and Letter Friends Convener. In 1960, she was recognized at the Annual WI Convention for her work initiating the Foster Parent Plan in PEI with the adoption of a young orphan from India. In May 1961, she travelled to Vancouver, British Columbia, as a PEIWI delegate for the national meeting. She enjoyed all these new experiences and challenges, taking them on with great zeal. On the home front, the Woodside farm in the 20th century was a satellite experimental farm for the PEI Experimental Farm based in Charlottetown. Once a year, local farmers would meet at the Knutsford farm, taking in lectures and field trips. The Knutsford WI supported this day by catering the occasion. Blanche and the members of the Knutsford WI took pride in participating in the PEI Rural Beautification program. Energetic and hardworking WI members worked with the whole community implementing
improvements to the school, cemetery, and local households.
Blanche cherished the sense of achievement, the joy and support of companionship and the strong friendships that developed over the years working with the Knutsford WI.
