Jessie Collicutt Dalton Moreshead 1945 Jessie Moreshead was a very talented and responsible individual. She had many interesting careers and was well thought of and dearly loved by her family and many friends. Jessie was born December 05, 1895 in Lot 7, Prince Edward Island. She married Alfred Dalton and together they had three children: one son and two daughters. Unfortunately, her son, Leigh, at approximately age six, contracted the Spanish Flu in 1917-1918, which left him deaf. Leigh then attended the School for the Deaf in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Sadly, at the age of 12, his appendix ruptured, and he passed away close to Christmas. One year later, her husband, Alfred, also died leaving Jessie with two daughters to raise on her own. A Salvation Army family assisted her with caring for the children for six months until she got settled. Jessie found work as a housekeeper for a dentist in Summerside, a job which allowed her to bring her daughters along. Jessie later married Johnny Moreshead, a 55-year-old bachelor. They moved to Knutsford where she joined the Knutsford Women’s Institute. Within a few years, they moved their two-story house to O’ Leary where they lived for several more years. They were very happy together, with Jessie frequently entertaining with lively music, as she was able to play several instruments, including the organ and the accordion. Jessie was described as versatile and very bright, always well dressed, friendly and kind. As mentioned earlier, she had many interesting careers. 28
