At nearly 60, she self-taught herself shorthand, which she then used to

do secretarial work and bookkeeping for organizations and individuals. She

was also librarian at the O’Leary library and worked at the O’Leary telephone office, often staying overnight as needed. She was a talented seamstress and did sewing for the community. She was an active member of the O’Leary United

Church. She was very well thought of by family and friends.

In approximately 1956, Johnny and Jessie moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, to join both her daughters and their families who were living there. She eventually came back to P.E.I. when her daughter, Essie Hudson, and

husband, Jim, returned to reside in Cascumpec.

Jessie passed away May 7,1983 at the Western Hospital, Alberton, P.E.I., and is buried in the Knutsford Cemetery.

She is fondly remembered by several grandchildren and great grandchildren and in particular, her granddaughter, Shirley Smith, who has provided the content for this brief biography.
