Joan Smallman

1963-1969- 1974-1975-2012-2013

Joan was the daughter of Doris and Garfield Gorrill of Glenwood, Prince Edward Island. She was a school teacher for several years before marrying James Smallman of

Knutsford, P.E.I.

Three children were born to James and Joan,

Jeffery, Joy, and Jason. Joan joined the Knutsford Women’s Institute in May 1966 and was made a life member in September 1986. Over the years, Joan was an active and dedicated member of the

Knutsford WI.

She served in all executive positions including treasurer, a position she held for 20 consecutive years. In 2001, Joan was successful in cycling the Island from tip- to - tip when she participated in the P.E.I. Women's Institute Legacy Bike Tour. Joan was a talented quilter and generously donated her handcrafted quilts to worthy causes. She was a choir member at her church and her singing voice was often

enjoyed at KWI meetings.
