was completing the monthly Bible Society’s ‘Search the Scriptures’. Her well- worn Bible was indication of its regular usage. Red Cross projects, especially during WWI and WWII, occupied any spare moments she might have. Many of the younger local women remember attending her sewing classes. One notable achievement was the creation of the ‘Victory’ | Quilt as a fundraiser for the Red Cross. She had embroidered the name of each local serviceman in the design which surrounded the central Red Cross emblem. Each serviceman received a sweater, socks, and other knitted items from Maggie. Letters of thanks appeared in her mailbox from around the world. Well into her eighth and ninth decades, she continued to work on her needlecraft projects. She remained physically active, working in the fields until a few years before her death in her ninety-ninth year. Family times were important and friends like the cherished ones in the WI made her life a rich one, indeed. Serving church, family and community was really at the essence of her very being.
