Wanda Adams

1983-1984-1989-1990 Wanda Isabel Adams was born on October 2, 1935, and is the daughter of Atwood and Cora (Gorrill) of Glenwood, P.E.I. She married Lorne Adams of Knutsford, P.E.I. on April 28, 1954 and resided in Knutsford for over 60 years. In 1976, she and Lorne sold the family farm and built a new home next door. At that time, Wanda became a visiting homemaker until her retirement in 1997. Working on the family farm and raising three sons (Brian,

Dale and Kevin) kept Wanda very busy. At the

urging of her mother-in-law (Hattie Adams), Wanda joined the Knutsford Women’s Institute in September 1971 at the annual meeting that was held at the home of Ed and Elva Smallman. She really appreciated the motto of the Women’s Institute, “For Home and Country”, and saw this as a way for her to

develop new friendships and to help support her community.

Over the years, Wanda has held a number of positions with the institute including president, vice-president, and treasurer. She is most proud to have been involved in the purchase of the Knutsford School by the Knutsford Women’s Institute for $1 from the province, and in the writing of the bylaws for the use of the school by the community. At the time, each member donated $2 each in order to cover the lawyer fees for the transfer of the deed. Wanda has enjoyed attending the institute workshops and also has had the privilege of attending many annual provincial women’s institute meetings as a voting delegate. In 1991, Wanda became a lifetime institute member. Wanda currently resides at Burnside Community Care located in Clyde River and continues to stay connected

with friends from the Knutsford Women’s Institute.
