Freda Alberta (Smallman) Woodside October 26, 1932-December 14, 2015

_ Born in Knutsford, the second of the six children in the family of Cora (Dennis) Smallman and Albert Smallman, Freda lived her entire life in Knutsford. She married Heath Woodside in 1952 and moved to the Woodside farm

where the couple raised five children. Norman, their

youngest child, now operates the farm. As a youth, Freda enjoyed her outside chores helping her father. She loved sports of all kinds and was naturally athletic with a special talent for playing hockey. Her team won the P.E.I. championship with Freda scoring the winning goal in overtime. Her children remember her happily participating in any activity, a role model for good sportsmanship. She also was well-versed in both the culinary arts and needlework. She spent long hours working in the household and on the farm. Joining the Knutsford WI gave her an opportunity to visit with friends and work on community projects. She liked working on the front lines

but was shy about accepting any executive roles with the organization.

It seemed that the December Christmas meeting was often held at the Woodside home. The house was decorated early in the month for that special occasion. The evening had a party feel to it as the women gathered in the parlour with singing and games after business meeting. The men in the kitchen awaited the wonderful special tea with

Christmas goodies.

Freda also served her church well, in particular the UCW. She supported her active family in all their endeavours and in later years, visited them wherever they settled. Her family was the centre of her life. Freda always made time for community service with the Knutsford WI. Friendships lasted for lifetimes and that is what made the WI special for

her.
