Marion Luxton
The members of Knutsford Women’s Institute are honoured to give recognition to our sister member, Marion Luxton by nominating her to the provincial WI Golden Book of Recognition. She is the second longest serving member of the Knutsford Women’s Institute. She joined our Institute in June 1945 and was made a life member in 1969.
Marion has served as president, director, auditor and has held all convenorships and served on all the Women’s Institute committees. She has been on the executive of the Area #2 convention and was Red Cross Convener. She was a participant in the first roadside cleanup and has continued to support this venture for over 30 years. She is presently on the telephone committee. Her home has always been open for institute meetings and other community functions. She has also been involved in WI quilting and the Community Hospital mending committee.
Marion regularly attends monthly meetings and has, in the past had perfect attendance. She has also collected in the district for various charitable organizations and remembers friends and neighbours in time of need. She has also served on the local Cemetery Committee. She is a faithful member of the O’Leary United Church, and an active member of the United Church Women’s Auxiliary, where she served for many years on the Social Function Committee.
Marion was actively involved beside her husband, Lorne, on the family farm, where they cared for her elderly parents until their death.
The mother of one daughter and grandmother to five grandchildren, she and Lorne still reside on the family homestead in Knutsford.
Marion is still an active member of the Knutsford Women’s Institute and presents well prepared devotions and programs as she continues to work for “Home and Country.”
We, the members of the Knutsford Women’s Institute, are hereby recommending Marion Luxton to recognized in The Golden Book of Recognition.
It gives the Knutsford Women’s Institute great pleasure to nominate Marion Luxton.
