Minutes of the November meeting were read and approved. The Travelling Apron fundraiser amounted to $23.65. Reports from school and sick committees were given. A letter from the Mental Health Association was discussed and it was decided that a small gift of $2 be given. It was also decided at this meeting that school children be given bags of 10 cents chips for a treat at
the Christmas concert.
The sick committee was responsible for treats and cards for the aged and shut-ins in the district.
Mrs. Herman Smallman paid dues for Institute News. The offering was $2.55.
A Christmas program was enjoyed by all. Songs and scriptures were sung and read, including “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and Luke 2:1-7. Lunch was served followed by the opening of gifts.
The January regular meeting of the Knutsford Women’s Institute took place at the home of Mrs. Herman Smallman. President Mrs. James Smallman opened the first meeting of the New Year, 1969 repeating the creed in unison. Seventeen members answered roll call with a donation of an
article for a layette. Internationally layettes were donated to the Unitarian Service Committee.
A basic layette consists of, 1 blanket, 4 cloth diapers, 2 nightgowns, 2 shirts, 2 jackets, 1 towel, 1 cake of laundry soap, and 4 large safety pins. The Knutsford Women’s Institute put together
many layettes over the years for the O’Leary Community Hospital and mothers-to- be.
An interesting yearly hospital report was read by the hospital convenor, Mrs. Foster Smallman. It was moved and seconded that from February on, offerings, be 25 cents. An offering is a collection given at every meeting by all members in attendance to go into the financial account for future needs. The program ended with a reading “Goodbye to 1968” and riddles from Mrs. Avard Harris. Another reading by Mrs. Albert Smallman was “After Christmas.” The meeting closed with everyone singing “Auld Lang Syne.” Next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Edgar
Smallman.
Highlights of the February meeting included sending $5 to the Musical Festival, appointing three members to get material for the Hospital Aid Concert, and giving $1 to the Scholarship fund. New committees were appointed, including School committee, Mrs. Edgar Smallman and Sick
committee, Mrs. Lorne Luxton and Mrs. Lawrence Harris.
