There was a discussion about giving a Scholarship to the Grade 12 graduates, and it was decided to continue this discussion at the next meeting. Mrs. James Smallman had canvassed half of the district and reported raising $23.68 for the Hospital Aid. The school committee visited the

school, and nothing was needed. Meeting closed with a social hour and lunch was enjoyed by all.

The president, Mrs. James Smallman, hosted the July meeting of the Knutsford Women’s Institute. Fifteen members responded to roll call by paying a cent for every inch of their waist

line which brought in $5.27.

Correspondence was read and discussed, and it was moved by Mrs. Foster Smallman and the secretary treasurer, Mrs. Winburn Harris, that $5 be given to the Shelter Workshop for the Handicapped. Sheltered workshops for people with disabilities are still perceived to offer a safer alternative environment to employ those who are physically, or mentally challenged rather than a “competitive, capitalist establishment.” It was agreed that further discussion on the scholarship fund be dropped until more information was brought in. No reports on school or sick committees

but Mrs. Reggie Adams gave a report on swimming lessons to be held the last two weeks of July. One member paid dues of 50 cents. A potluck supper followed and was appreciated by all.

Seven members attended the August meeting, and one guest was welcomed. It was held at Mrs. Harry Adams home. The meeting began with all the women singing the Island Hymn. Afterwards they answered roll call by giving a household hint.

Mrs. Harry Adams and Mrs. Raby Adams were appointed to give out cards at the hospital in September.

In September at the home of Mrs. Arnold Smallman the following slate of officers was approved President - Mrs. Arnold Smallman Vice President - Mrs. Harry Adams Secretary Treasurer Mrs. James Smallman Directors - Mrs. Lawrence Harris, Mrs. Alvin Yeo, and Mrs. Reggie Adams
