In May Fairley Yeo welcomed 21 members to her home in Knutsford and an exchange of flower

seeds followed for roll call.

She volunteered her husband’s truck to pick up garbage on the side of the road at the annual

Roadside Cleanup May 14.

In June at the home of Mrs. Arnold Smallman, Fairley Yeo reported that the Young Canada Work project had been approved. $6,100 was granted by the government to offer three students

summer work.

The electricity was completed in the school building, and thank you notes were sent to Lorne

Luxton, George Meggison, and Lorne Adams for their help in getting the school wired.

In July with the wiring done, Mrs. Lawrence Harris hosted the Women’s Institute meeting at the school. The Lions Club asked the ladies to assist in setting the tables for a celebrity dinner. Silver

Dennis reported on school progress and that crafts were needed if there was to be a craft centre.

In August, the regular meeting was once again held at the school hosted by Mrs. Claire MacNeill. The members wished Orell Smallman a Happy 29 Wedding Anniversary. Information was given regarding Island Labels. After a discussion it was moved and seconded that an Open House at the school take place August 27, from 2 until 9. There was a bake sale, a craft sale, and sandwiches, breads, sweets, tea and coffee and Kool-Aid was served to guests. Empress displayed her double wedding ring quilt and everyone remarked on how beautiful and special it

was.

In September, roll call was answered by paying their dues and explaining, “what Institute means to me”. Mrs. Lillie Adams thanked the members for choosing her to cut the ribbon for opening the school, Knutsford Community Centre. The grand opening was a great success with well over 100 people attending. New plans were already being made for a buffet luncheon for a new

Veterinary Clinic soon to open.

The postponed regular October meeting was held at the school with Tillie Dyment as hostess. The president, Eileen Smallman, brought the meeting to order by repeating a thoughtful
