The October meeting held at the school opened with President Eileen Smallman giving the thought for the month. Orell conducted the devotional and roll call was answered by which country would you like most to visit. Most members said they would like to visit the Holy Land. A discussion was had on their upcoming 50" Anniversary. Spoons are on order for the occasion. The social committee said it was time to begin having social parties again at the school on Wednesdays. Joan Smallman reported for the hospital aid committee that the fall fair would take place at the C E Centre November 2 with Knutsford in charge of fun and nonsense. Joan Smallman, Tillie Dyment, and Lilly Adams volunteered to look after the booth. Correspondence was read and dealt with. A thank you note was received from Christine MacKinnon in appreciation of financial assistance to the Water Safety Committee. The 25 chairs were delivered on October 19, and $324 to paid on delivery. $9 was paid to Wanda Adams for quilt batting. Orell Smallman read a Thanksgiving poem and lunch was served by hostess Lilly Adams. The November meeting was held at the school and Empress McDowell was hostess. The sick committee reported no calls made and the hospital committee reported on the fall fair, which was November 2. There will be a carol sing-song December 12 at the United Church. The committee in charge of the 50" Anniversary reported final plans to be made. Helen Adams and Eileen Smallman reported on the Leadership workshop they attended. It was decided that $6 be sent to scholarship fund and also $3 be sent to the adopted child. It was decided a member would volunteer to work at the O’Leary rink canteen the first Tuesday of every month during the winter months. Wanda Adams, Verna Smallman and Joan Smallman volunteered to fill these positions. Eileen Smallman recited a reading entitled “Remember When.” The members read in unison the traditional, Jn Flanders Fields poem written for Remembrance Day. Meeting adjourned and lunch was served. On November 28, 1978, the Knutsford Women’s Institute members gathered with their husbands at the school to celebrate their 50 Anniversary. Leona Maclssac of the Department of Agriculture in O’Leary was invited to help celebrate. Also invited, charter member Mrs. Velda MacNeill, but she, unfortunately, was unable to attend. Everyone toasted Queen Elizabeth and Orell Smallman read an anniversary poem followed by the cutting of the cake by Lilly Adams. 125
