The March KWI meeting was held at the home of Wanda Adams. The quilt committee reported that one quilt sold for $150. It was decided that Marion Luxton and Helen Adams attend the executive meeting. It was also moved by Silver Dennis and seconded by Freda Woodside that a gift be purchased for Fairley Yeo in appreciation of her participation for the Woman of the Year Award. Also, they decided to send a card to Jack Turner who was an important Canadian war photographer from O’ Leary. He had smuggled a camera into the battle lines during the First World War. He was born September 1889 and died at 100 years old October 1989 in O’Leary. A photograph, which had been hand-coloured by Turner, hangs in the school. It was donated to the KWI by Ruby Ramsay. It was part of her collection. The guest speaker for this meeting was Beverly Boulter who gave an interesting and informative video presentation on farm safety.

Afterwards, a discussion was enjoyed by the members.

The April meeting of the KWI was held at the home of Betty Sweet. President Helen Adams opened with a timely thought. Roll call was answered by 11 members who participated in a lively auction sale with Joan Smallman as a very capable auctioneer. $25.10 was raised. Correspondence consisted of Notes and News, a monthly newsletter from the provincial WI office in Charlottetown. It provided updates of meetings and all news pertaining to the organization. A thank you card from Leah Harris on behalf of the Music Festival was also received. Helen Adams gave a report from the area convention, which was well attended, informative and enjoyable. It was decided to send $50 to the Red Cross for Water Safety programs. Also, it was decided to invite the Provincial Women’s Institute president, Mrs. Geneva King to their May meeting. The program was a quiz on notable women of P.E.I. to test

their knowledge. The meeting closed with the Matzah Benediction and the WI Grace.
