importance of forgiveness and how God’s work can be accomplished by a giving mind. Correspondence, consisting of resolutions to be presented at the annual meeting May 30, were read and discussed. The Red Cross committee reported a successful bake sale that made $210. Roadside cleanup was also discussed as was the potluck meeting in June and purchasing a padlock for the outside door. It was decided that $100 be donated for the CAT scan fund for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. Mrs. King accepted the cheque which will be presented by her on the KWI’s behalf. The meeting closed with a humorous reading by Helen Adams.
In June, the meeting was once again held at the community centre. Preceding the business portion of the meeting, the members sat down to a delicious lobster supper, complete with a variety of salads and desserts. Roll call was answered by 19 members stating why they are proud to be Canadian. Donations of seedlings amounted to $38. Finally, flowers for planting at the
school and cutting the lawn was discussed. Meeting closed by singing O Canada.
The annual institute meeting in September was held at the Women’s Institute Community Centre (school). President Helen Adams opened the meeting with a timely thought of the month, reminding us of God’s many blessings at harvest time. Twelve members answered roll call by paying their dues. The Red Cross committee reported a successful water safety program with 36 children participating. The hospital committee said the New to You thrift shop had opened in the Handy Andy store. Members also discussed the opening of a retail postal outlet in O’ Leary. There were mixed feelings among the members. It was decided that the duties of the treasurer
and secretary be divided for the coming year. It was moved by Fairley Yeo and seconded by Harriet MacNeill that the treasurer will become a member of the executive and have signing authority for cheques. It was moved by Orell Smallman and seconded by Isabel Harris. The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented. All offices were declared vacant, and the following
slate of officers was brought in by Wanda Adams.
