money rather than small items. The quilt committee reported there had been requests for two quilts, and they would begin to prepare to make them if everyone agreed. Other business noted that their twin branch for that year was the Ellerslie Women’s Institute. Members decided to canvass for the Heart Fund, and it was moved by Joan Smallman and seconded by Orell Smallman that $50 be donated to the Figure Skating Club to help pay for the printing of programs for the regional competition being held at the O’Leary rink. It was decided to donate $20 to the West Prince Music Festival. Members decided to get together to quilt in near future,
colour and pattern to be decided at a later date.
Program for the evening was directed by Verna and Joan Smallman. Joan presented a quiz on flowers as they pertain to girls’ names. Verna gave a video presentation entitled Quit with Cancer, complete with follow-up material. Members found it very interesting and informative. A lively discussion was had on the importance of daily food habits for the well-being of themselves
and their families. The meeting adjourned, followed by lunch.
The regular institute meeting in March was held at the home of Freda and Heath Woodside. Roll call was answered by nine members. Minutes of the previous minutes were heard and accepted
as presented. Both the Figure Skating Club and the Music Festival sent cards of thanks for the donations received. Marion Luxton and Helen Adams were appointed to the executive meeting in 1991. A request was granted that a member use the community centre for a family gathering. And $377 was handed in by the canvassers for the Heart Fund. Program for the meeting was by the Cultural Affairs Convener, Marion Luxton. She used material from the kit entitled /860’s Rural Life on P.E.I. The kit, provided by the WI head office in Charlottetown, contained a booklet of ideas to provide a very interesting program on social conditions and customs which
influenced P.E.I.’s culture in the 1860s including recipes.
The April institute meeting was hosted by Jean and Foster Harris. It opened with the Mary Stewart Collect recited in erica followed by a scripture reading by Helen Adams. She read from Corinthians, Luke, and Timothy to convey the message of Easter with its offer of hope to mankind. Roll call opened with nine members with an auction of an Easter basket. During the business portion, a discussion was had on inviting Eva Rodgerson to speak at their May meeting on behalf of Red Cross Water Safety in general and increased registration. Mothers of children
who are interested in joining swimming lessons are invited to attend this meeting. Also, a yard
