members telling each other to enjoy the summer and look forward to seeing each other in
September with renewed energy to work for home and country.
The annual meeting of the KWI was held at the community centre. Roll call was answered by 14 members paying their dues and giving suggestions to improve their institute. School committee reported that shrubs were planted rather than annuals. Quilt committee reported that two quilts
are in the frames. The Red Cross convener reported another successful Water Safety program; however, membership was down significantly, from 36 children in previous years to 20 kids this year. Silver Dennis reported on the provincial convention which she attended with Wanda
Adams, Helen Adams and Marion Luxton. She found it interesting and informative and urged the other members to try to attend in the future. An invitation was read from the Ellerslie WI inviting them to be their guests in October. The annual treasurer’s report was given by Joan Smallman
and accepted as presented. All offices were declared vacant, and the new slate of officers were brought in by Helen Adams. Program for the meeting was under direction of Empress
McDowell, who had another humorous reading. Meeting closed with members singing Bringing
in the Sheaves, a new favourite of the members.
The October meeting of the KWI was held at the school. It opened with a harvest time thought by Wanda Adams. Devotional was under the direction of Myrtle MacWilliams. Her message
spoke of our relationship in the great family of God.
Joan Smallman, on behalf of the quilt committee, reported that two quilts were completed and ready for sale. Empress McDowell and Myrtle MacWilliams donated a significant amount of material blocks to begin another quilt. Members expressed their gratitude to them for their time and effort. The Red Cross convener reported on a supper meeting at the West Point Lighthouse at which time plans were made for the upcoming year. Hospital Aid (represented by Wanda Adams) reported on an interesting talk given by hospital administration at its last meeting. Volunteers were needed to work at the New to You. Empress McDowell and Joan Smallman volunteered for next month. The members also discussed their involvement in the Community Pride project. It was decided by the school committee and the executive to pursue this matter as soon as possible. It was moved by Silver Dennis and Susie Smallman that the office of Card Secretary be discontinued as very few cards were used. Plans were discussed for members visit
guests of the Ellerslie institute. Myrtle MacWilliams and Empress volunteered to spend time
