The monthly meeting of the KWI in November was held at the school. President Wanda Adams opened the meeting with a Remembrance Day poem. Fairley Yeo conducted the devotional, and her theme was Unselfish Love. She said we should love our neighbour as ourselves. Christ gave us the greatest example of unselfish love by giving his life for our sins. For the December meeting, it was decided to make a donation to Family Services. It was moved by Elva Smallman and seconded by Lorraine Harris that Betty Sweet, Fairley Yeo, Helen Adams, and Wanda Adams complete an application for Community Pride program committees. The two completed quilts were sold and there was no report from the Red Cross convener. One member had worked at the New to You. Sunshine Pal will continue for another year and a white gift (for people with mental illness) is to be brought to next meeting. Citizenship and Legislation convener, Joan Smallman, gave a talk on one of the WI’s on P.E.I., which disbanded their institute due to the abortion laws on the Island. The offering for the evening amounted to $20.90, and another $30 was given to the community hospital toward a donation for a chair. Program was a reading called November Stillness and some jokes told by Orell Smallman. Silver Dennis closed the meeting by
reading In Flanders Fields. Lunch was served by the committee in charge.
The KWI Christmas meeting in 1990 was held at the beautifully festive and decorated home of Joan Smallman. President Wanda Adams opened the meeting with the Mary Stewart Collect. Verna Smallman led the devotional with the song O Little Town of Bethlehem sung by all. Then she read Luke chapter 2 verses 1-20. Many other carols were sung by the 15 members and one visitor. Roll call was answered with a Christmas verse. Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported $560.75 on hand. Correspondence was read and dealt with. Fairley Yeo moved to send $5 to the Sudan tree planting program seconded by Joan Smallman. A letter from Valerie Strang, domestic family violence counsellor, was read and it was decided to have her speak at their February meeting on the subject at the Regional Services Centre. No
