2 Convention in O’Leary. Five ladies canvassed the district for Cancer Fund, raising $493.50. President Susie Smallman met WI World President Valerie Fisher, Associated Country Women of the World from Australia at the home of Provincial WI President, Geneva King. We received a congratulatory letter from Premier Catherine Callbeck on the occasion of our 65th anniversary. We delivered survey sheets and invitations to non-members in the district. The surveys were returned but to date, we haven’t had any new members join. We sent letters and made phone

calls to Premier Catherine Callbeck and to our MLAs and Minister of Justice supporting the Law Society in having the Family Legal Aid program revisited. We expressed concerns about video gambling and cutbacks in Chaplaincy Services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. We donated to White Gift; Family Services Bureau; Caring Cupboard; Music Festival; National Institute of Canada; Christmas favours for hospital trays; Bob the Beaver; Library 60th anniversary; Hospital Aid; one large quilt, two crib quilts; face cloths and other items; and $20 cash. We also donated food for the pantry sales and lunches. Joan Smallman made quilt blocks for WI provincial board member, Lois Thompson’s retirement quilt. She also donated a wall hanging and Verna Smallman donated potholders for the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada and convention gift stalls. We were invited to attend the opening of the West Prince Family Resource Centre (formerly the Mount Royal Group home.) We participated in Roadside

Cleanup, the upkeep of our Community Centre, cleaning, planting, painting, and each taking turns cutting the grass. We sent Christmas cards to seniors in our district. To date, six showers have been held in the centre. We have devotion each meeting and have had Programs on the Environment, Nutrition, Labelling; How Safe is Our Food Supply, videos on Aquaculture on P.E.L., along with contests and readings. On June 22-23, we redecorated our community centre hallways with paint and new flowered curtains which brightened up the place considerably. The stove, stove pipes, floor of the front entrance and steps were also painted. We are very indebted to Lorne Luxton who brought staging and, with Silver Dennis’s help, painted high parts and ceilings while others painted the below. We also removed the vent pipe which was the cause of the ceiling leaking. Then, along with Lorne Adams, they made an excellent job of filling the opening with suitable material. With this support and interest in our undertaking, we were able to do the painting ourselves which cut down our costs for redecorating by quite a significant amount. Originally, we planned to hire someone to do the painting for us. A star quilt was pieced

and quilted last week and another one is pieced and ready for quilting. We were busy but with
