Following is the April 1996 to March 1997 Knutsford Women’s Institute Report for Area 2

Convention:

Madam President and sister members and guests: I wish to report the activities of Knutsford Women’s Institute which was organized in 1928. We have a membership of 19 active members. We hold meetings with an average attendance of 13. We close for the summer months with a potluck supper. Each meeting we have a devotion, video or kits from the WI office, as well as contests, readings etc. Two members represent us at the Hospital Aid meetings. We enjoy our secret pals. Members are visited during an illness. Two members celebrated special anniversaries, a 50th and 60th. At Christmas, our last charter member and shut-in member was remembered with a visit and candy. Cards were sent to seniors in our district. We attended the workshops; our area convention and six members went to the county convention in Summerside. We participated in Roadside Cleanup, and quilted, knit squares for Zambia, cut grass, planted a tree and flowers at our community centre. We provide the upkeep of the centre and this summer three showers were held. We assisted with refreshments for several occasions and hospital bake sales. We donated a quilt and other items to the Community Hospital. We gave to Bob the Beaver, Pennies for Friendship, Music Festival, Red Cross Water Safety, Caring Cupboard, White Cross, Gift Stall, P.E.I. Scholarship Fund and Stereotactic Mammography Machine by canvassing our district. We compiled the history of our WI from 1928 to 1996. In past years, most of our group activities involved work, so in July 12, members boarded Terry Adam’s van and went on a tour of the Fixed Link Fabrication Yard. This was very interesting and informative. At noon, we dined at the Locust Chinese Restaurant in Kensington. While we were waiting for our meal to be served, we surprised Harriet MacNeill with a life membership pin and certificate. Pictures were taken of the presentation as well as group pictures. After a delicious meal, we proceeded to Woodleigh Replicas in Burlington for a tour of the beautiful grounds, reflections of British Culture in its glory. Before leaving the relaxed setting of Woodleigh, we stepped up our pace and went through the maze. This was an experience in itself! At one point

in time, we considered crawling under or cutting down a few trees so we could get out before the
