Smallman, were to get prices from Alberton Sport and Blaine Buchanan. The total price was $108.93 and it remains above the door of the school today. In the centre of the banner is the Women’s Institute’s motto For Home and Country, and above the banner says Knutsford School No 10. The community centre is now designated as a heritage building as it is much older than 50 years old. Sterling Stratton, whose historical art is done in pencil drawings, donated a picture of the Knutsford school to the KWI. Secretary Wanda Adam’s report in 2010 The Knutsford Women’s Institute met for 10 meetings in the fiscal year 2010-11 with an average attendance of 10.5. Six meetings were held in member’s homes, three in school building and one at the Corinthian Home hosted by Empress McDowell. Following a meal at the G&E Restaurant, they met frequently at 7:30 p.m. and 2 o’clock in the winter months. In turn, members presented a meaningful devotion at the beginning of the regular meetings. This fiscal year, Empress McDowell not only had perfect attendance but was honoured by receiving the first Senior Federation Volunteer Award. The programs include quizzes, program packets, and items of general interest. International Affairs convener Lorraine Harris keeps current news in front of the meetings, as does Fairley Yeo with Agricultural updates. The Sunshine Pal continues. During the year Lorraine Harris and Helen Adams received the Long-Service Award. Two members, Wanda Adams and Betty Sweet, continue to sit on Ladies Aid of the C.H.O. to represent Knutsford W.I. The institute is also represented as a volunteer at the New to You, a second-hand store in the community. Some members continue to participate in the Roadside Cleanup, as the weather has been very wet around the cleaning time. The Halloween and Christmas party were once again celebrated in the school. The school is offered as lodging for swimming instructors for two weeks in July. Fairley Yeo once again offered her cottage as a fundraiser for the Spring is in the Air Gala Dinner. We support the West Prince Family Violence Prevention Services, the Caring Cupboard, White Gift at Christmas, tray favours for the hospital at Christmastime, education fund, Adelaide Hoodless Homestead, Pennies for Friendship, and Women of the World. Members also raise money from roll call. This year most members gave at least $7 and baked. The sale, in support of Project at School, was a success. Efforts are made to keep the grass clipped and flowers planted, and shrubs are trimmed all summer long. 163
