Lorraine reported that Wayne Coughlin returned home from Afghanistan. Verna Smallman read a nice Thanksgiving poem and presented an American Thanksgiving quiz which proved difficult for the members. Fairley Yeo presented an interesting paper on how to care for Amarillo flower. Dr. Charles Dewar was honoured with a Canadian Family doctor award. Myles Boulter received
the Volunteer Fireman Award.
Congratulations were extended to Fairley Yeo upon her graduation from U.P.E.I. by Wanda Adams, secretary, and Knutsford Women’s Institute, president, Betty Sweet.
A monthly meeting of the KWI was held 2010, Nov. 10, at the home of Harriet and Clair MacNeill. Fairley Yeo conducted the devotion with a reading, Healing the World. The scripture
was taken from Psalm 29 and closed with a prayer for peace.
President Betty Sweet read an article that was published in the Journal-Pioneer newspaper May 23, 1944. It was a memorial for Lorne Boulter, who was a casualty of war, written by Mrs. Johnnie MacPherson (Betty’s mother). For the program, Fairley Yeo read a letter to the editor, Only drastic measures will save family farming, by Matthew E. Lawless, a young farmer who is attending Nova Scotia Agriculture College in Truro, N.S. International Affairs Lorraine Harris reported that the Governor General for Canada, David Johnstone, had visited P.E.I. Clayton and Lillian Harris’s daughter, Sharon, who is in the military, is flying out to Afghanistan for nine months, leaving tomorrow, November 11. Wanda Adams gave the hospital report saying there are two more palliative care rooms being allocated at CHO, bringing the total to four. CHO has been designated as the main Palliative Care Unit for West Prince. The hospital auxiliary, which Wanda has been part for many years, is supplying funds to help with this transition. Thank you notes will be sent to Connie, Brook, Brynn and Darby Smallman for providing and coordinating the entertainment and games for a successful Halloween party. A cash donation of $100 was given by Freda and Heath Woodside.The centre property tax rebate was credited by the government. It was moved that $20 be donated to West Prince Family Violence through the provincial board for Rainbow Residence. A Christmas party will be held December 20 from 7-9
and Barbara, Isobel and Fairley will form a committee to plan the party.
