School committee reported the water had been drained at the school and flowers had been cut off by Isobel. Hospital committee reported that the auxiliary will donate $30,000 for a new X-ray machine, $15,000 now and $5,000 in the New Year. After a discussion, it was decided that a Christmas concert would take place, December 14 being the tentative date. The Christmas meeting of the KWI was held at the home of Susan and Garth Smallman. President Orell Smallman opened the meeting with a reading on Unselfish Giving during the Christmas season. The mission statement was repeated in unison. The devotional was conducted by Betty Sweet with a reading asking that this Christmas season be a time of loving, sharing, meditation and true worship. Scripture verses were John 3-16, Luke chapter 1 verses 1-16 and Matthew 2 verses 1-10. Other readings were done by Wanda Adams and Fairley Yeo. Then, traditional carols were sung, O’ Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem and Hark the Harold Angels Sing. Roll call was answered by 13 members reciting a Christmas reading or poem and giving a tray favour for hospital patients and an item for the Caring Cupboard. Previous minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Barbara Sweet reported that all bills had been paid including $100 to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. Correspondence consisted of Notes and News. The Christmas concert committee reported plans going well for the December 19 events, storm date December 21. Members are to meet at the school to decorate at 9:30 a.m. Invitations had been written and mailed out. Taylor Vardy, who was working as a volunteer student, was very helpful. Under new business, it was moved by Fairley Yeo and seconded by Isobel Harris that two teddy bears be donated to Edna Gallant’s annual Teddy Bear Drive in memory of her son, Chad. It was moved by Wanda Adams and seconded by Lorraine Harris that a signing authority be given to president Orell Smallman, vice president Fairley Yeo and treasurer Barbara Sweet with any two of the three to sign. With response from provincial board, members voted for one convention on Saturday. Fairley moved meeting adjourn, and it closed with singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Presents were passed out by Santa Karen and Secret Pals were chosen. Hostess Susan Smallman sat us around her dining room table set with china and silver and a delicious lunch was served. 174
