Information about Jack Turner was received from his granddaughter, Leah, as well as many photos and information. A discussion was had on a workshop to be held at the Wellington Legion in October. Members were not able to commit to attend. It was decided to send teddy bears to Edna Gallant for her charity in memory of her son. Mary Quigley will be the guest speaker at the November meeting. Program committee was Betty Sweet and Verna Smallman. Betty proceeded with a reading about Lorne Boulter, Joan Smallman’s uncle, who was killed in action during the Second World War in Italy. The article was a memorial written by Betty’s mother, Irma MacPherson. Verna Smallman presented a Remembrance Day article on Knutsford’s own Jack Turner, war photographer during the First World War. A new exhibition of war photographs with the camera he smuggled in is being shown beginning November 11, 2015 until May 2016. The show is being curated by Boyd Beck. An informative paper on Simple Home Remedies for Common Illnesses was presented by Verna Smallman. For example: to cure heartburn — eat a banana or drink ginger tea; bite a pencil to cure a headache; bad breath — eat yogurt; fever — eat oranges or a glass of milk; sore throat — eat three or four marshmallows; cough — try ginger in hot water and eat grapes; common cold — drink lemon juice or garlic soup and lots of water.
