Orell Smallman read a special reading entitled The Ten Commandments of the WI. This reading was presented first at the WI convention by Orell’s mother, Beatrice Rix, in 1972. The May regular monthly KWI meeting was held at the community centre. Joan Smallman presented the program with the story of Mary Stewart Collect by Mary Stewart. Agricultural convener Fairley Yeo’s program was titled Kale - the vegetable powerhouse. It contains vitamins A, C and K and powerful antioxidants beneficial to health, lowering cholesterol and keeping the liver healthy. There was to be a free CPR instruction hands on course and AED training (defibrillator) June 6 at the centre, open to all members and community. The 2016 provincial convention will be held May 28 at the Town Hall in Stratford. Joan and Verna Smallman will be delegates. The ladies who attended the Spring is in the Air Gala dinner were chauffeured by Marshall Smallman. Barbara and Frank Sweet also attended the dinner fundraiser. Roadside cleanup will be May 14. Garbage bags will be picked up at the P.E.I. Access Centre and passed out. Department of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy will pick up the following day. A report on grant for new sewer system was given at a special meeting with Brenda O’ Meara. Kevin Adams oversees hiring plumbers and electricians and Scott Gamble will take a soil test for moisture on May 11th. Grass cutting will commence soon, and members offered their services. $730 was collected by Susan Smallman, Fairley Yeo and Maxine Harris for cancer fund. There will be a follow up with Boyd Beck soon regarding the panel. Two wedding showers will be held in the centre, Aaron Sweet, May 26 and Brittany Smallman, June 9.
