card. Hospital committee, Betty Sweet and Wanda Adams, reported that a bursary of $1,000 from the Hospital Aid will go to a nursing student attending second, third or fourth year of training. It is 60 years since the hospital aid started with Marion MacKenzie first president. Orell Smallman and Silver Dennis were the KWI’s first hospital conveners attending the aid. David Platts installed the new septic tank in the building thanks to New Horizon, reported Fairley Yeo. Kevin Adams is planning to be here October 1, with plumbers and electricians booked. The WI wrote a supportive letter for a group trying to obtain a grant for doing needs assessments for a new senior’s facility. The grant didn’t go through. They are looking for other means of funding. Lewis John Martin and Sally Lockhart are some of the people involved. The W.I. letter of support for the O’Leary Legion to plant a community garden was a huge success. The Legion was the location for a successful boiling of beets by the group. The K WI applied for another New Horizon grant to finish the project to provide a wheelchair accessible ramp. Congratulations to the KWI team of 4 Farm Girls on being winners in the potato peeling contest as part of the Potato Blossom Festival in July, namely Betty Sweet, Joan Smallman, Isobel Harris, and Barbara Sweet. The team came in second and Joan Smallman was the best peeler. $25 and other prizes were awarded. Fairley Yeo reported on the final panel.
