People are needed to sew items for the kits, also face clothes, soap and under pants. Girls miss so much time off school when they start to menstruate, and some drop out of school. Nancy Muller is organizing a fundraising concert at Westisle School soon. Fairley Yeo reported receiving a letter of thanks for the generous number of items donated to the Spring is in the Air Gala Dinner auction fundraiser. $16,836.15 was presented to the Prince Edward Island Ground Search and Rescue at the provincial WI convention May 16. With Verna Smallman and Fairley Yeo responsible for the program, they were fortunate to have some ladies working in West Prince Primary Health Care speak with the members. Fairley introduced Margaret Duffy-Landry, manager of three West Prince Health centres in O’Leary, Alberton, and Tyne Valley. She managed the physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and admin staff. She is also collaborating manager for all the allocated services and programs at these health centres. Her clinical lead present was RN Christina Phillips, and nurse practitioner Kelsey MacPhee from West Prince Primary Care Network. Services can come from doctors, nurse practitioners, RNs, and LPNs and include pap testing, spirometry testing (breathing test), mental health services and living with stroke classes. They provide workplace wellness and additional services such as hypertension, cholesterol, prenatal care, immunization, cardio education, diabetes management, cryontherapy and smoking cessation. LPNs services could include injections, minor dressings, suture/staple removal, 24 hours blood pressure monitoring and mini mental exams. Alberton and O’Leary services include nighttime appointments with Nurse Practitioners. Tyne Valley Community hospital can outreach to Tignish hospital and Lennox Island. Nurse practitioners can order blood work and X-rays to provide treatment, make referrals of specialists and diagnose and treat illness, prescribe medication, provide counselling and
