November was Diabetes Month, so it was good time for Susan Smallman to talk and provide information on the chronic illness. Roll call was answered by 11 members reading Remembrance Day poem and donation to Caring Cupboard. Two teddy bears will be given to Edna Gallant’s charity in memory of her son. Correspondence included an application for PEIWI board directors cooking contest of Island products for young people Grade 7-12. There was also an application for PEIWI elevator pitch contest (how long it takes to ride an elevator). A Festive Country Christmas promoting Women’s Institute was to be held at the Farm Centre November 29. The O’Leary Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary celebrated 60 years of volunteer service in the community. Jean Webb had been a member since it was first organized, and Silver Dennis and Orell Smallman attended the first meeting as delegates of the KWI. Marion MacKenzie was the first president of the hospital aid auxiliary. The planning committee, consisting of Isobel Harris, Barbara and Betty Sweet and Susan Smallman, were nominated by Fairley Yeo and seconded by Karen Redden to organize the school Christmas Concert. Tentative date, December 8. A recognition reception was held at the school in appreciation of the grant received for the wheelchair ramp project from the government. MP Bobby Morrissey was sincerely thanked, and MLA Robert Henderson spoke to the people in attendance along with the institute members. A lovely lunch was served for all. A little something was given to the men who worked on the

project septic tank, bathroom and kitchen renovations.

The Christmas meeting was held at the home of Alvin and Fairley Yeo. Lorraine Harris and Orell Smallman were on the program for the evening. Joy to the World and other traditional carols were sung after the devotion was read (Luke 2:8-20) then Silent Night. Minutes of the November meeting were read and approved. The Old-Fashioned Christmas Concert was a success. Play dough and crafts entertained the children and a story told by Joan Smallman entertained all. Santa Clause (Darrin MacKinnon) arrived singing Here comes Santa Claus. Twenty children sat on Santa’s knee that night and all left with a gift. About 60 people in total attended. The K WI was pleased to learn money raised in the Spring is in the Air Gala fundraiser will go to the O’Leary and Alberton Community Hospitals for an ultrasound machine. A new

program called Telehelp was introduced in doctor’s offices. It would allow a doctor to consult
