Sick committee Orell Smallman and Lorraine Harris will remember members Eileen Smallman, Susie Smallman and Marion Luxton with gifts at Christmastime. Members will report all volunteer hours at next meeting. Barbara Sweet passed out gifts and secret pals were revealed and chosen for another
year. A delicious lunch was served on Fairley’s beautifully festive decorated table.
In January 2016 the regular meeting was held at the home of Wanda Adams. After president Orell Smallman thanked Wanda for hosting the KWI meeting, Betty Sweet gave the devotion from Luke 3:10 on kindness and service. We are to find something only we can do for others. Fairley Yeo presented the convener program on the P.E.I. potato industry and the three main uses for potatoes — 30 per cent for the table, 60 per cent to processing, and 10 per cent for seed potatoes. Russets are the most popular variety, with 88,000 acres grown. Potatoes are nutritious and one medium potato is 100 calories and contains protein, fibre, iron, potassium, and vitamin C. Lorraine Harris conducted a contest on letters of the alphabet and the Mary Stewart Collect and the Mission statement were repeated. The Rodd Mill River has new owners, Don MacDougall’s family. He was a farmer from the area. It will be named the Mill River Experience. Wanda Adams and Betty Sweet gave the hospital report. The hospital ordered an external defibrillator and a pump medicator for home care use. An important information meeting will take place at the Mill River Experience February 16 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Guest speakers will be Margaret Duffy Landry, manager of West Prince Health Centres, Christina Phillips, RN, Nurse Practitioner, Kelsey MacPhee, Paula Caulies, nutritionist, and Shawn Brown, druggist, speaking on reactions to off the shelf medications and prescriptions. Lights for the Future raised $8,000 to go palliative care and some money came from funeral home donations. Betty Sweet and Fairley Yeo filled out an application for Small Halls for the KWI community centre to be a venue for variety concerts in June. Stage shows include gospel music, fiddle music and story tellers. Sick committee reported visiting Susie Smallman in long-term care with a
poinsettia plant and Eileen Smallman with a book at Christmastime.
In February, Verna Smallman read the program which was information on risk factors of pre- diabetes. Tips were offered to increase physical activity, portion guide for meal planning and
healthy living. Plans were made for the Area 2 convention to be held February 22, storm date 23
