Also, Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was injured for wanting to attend school, received the Nobel Prize and has recently become an honorary Canadian. The May K WI regular meeting was held at the school and Joan Smallman was hostess. President Orell Smallman opened the meeting with a Mother’s Day poem. Verna Smallman presented the program with a reading called The Old Woman and the Burglar, and a heartfelt reading titled Loving Muriel, about an Alzheimer’s patient cared for by her husband. Susan Smallman gave the convener program, Around the world on P.E.I. Several communities in P.E.I. had the same name as other places around the world. Anne Dougay was hired to clean the school and paint back steps. Wanda Adams gave the hospital report and said that 32 volunteers at the New to You were treated to a meal at the G&E Restaurant by O’Leary Hospital auxiliary for all their volunteer work. KWI members plan to have food tables and the WI members donated items for sale. Gena Yeo will have book sale as well. Anyone can book a table. Susan and Garth Smallman have volunteered to cut grass for two weeks. Verna will cut it next, and Isobel Harris will see to getting volunteers for the rest of the season. 196
