During the special meeting on August 29th, it was discussed that Lindsay Callaghan, Mariah Murphy, Gracie Smallman, and perhaps Carrie Jane Murphy will serve in period costume. Members and entertainers will have to pay admission. There will be white linen tablecloths and red napkins. Reporter Eric McCarthy interviewed members and photo was taken for the Journal Pioneer. Allison Griffin called Fairley Yeo re “Tip-to-Tip Cycling Tour”. 44 cyclists will be
needing lunches for this fundraising on October 1.
September 7th special meeting of the Celebration Tea planning committee: members present were Fairley Yeo, Verna Smallman, Betty Sweet, Isobel Harris, Susan Smallman and Orell
Smallman.
The 150 Celebration Tea was from 2-3 p.m. and opened with flag anthem Oh Canada. 98-year- old Empress McDowell received special recognition on this occasion: Betty Sweet read a citation, Verna Smallman presented flowers to Empress from the members, and her grandson, Carter, presented her with a picture framed collage of six lines of five generations in the McDowell family. Egmont MP Bobby Morrissey presented the cheque to WI for a New Horizons Grant for the wheelchair ramp. MLA Robert Henderson, WI member Empress McDowell and Egmont MP Bobby Morrissey cut cake. Donald MacDonald, MLA Robert Henderson, Egmont MP Bobby Morrissey and WI member Barb Sweet cut the ribbon on the wheelchair ramp. Melissa Heald from West Prince Graphic interviewed Fairley and Orell about day’s activities September 16 and took photo of everyone present in period costume outside the school. They asked Anne Dougay to help in kitchen, so members were free to be present.128 tickets were sold for the 150 Celebration Tea and the Scotia Bank matched the amount raised for
a total of $2,100.
