Plans were made to clean the hall and make it ready for the Festival of Small Halls. ADL donated cheese, a 50-pound bag of potatoes, and a gift card for eggs, all to be used for supper for musicians of the festival. Glennis Wallace, president of West Prince Arts Council, requested a letter of support from the K WI to be given to whatever grant they are applying for. Correspondence included Notes and News memorial edition, Rotary Club of Charlottetown Elderdog (a program helping seniors who struggle with the care of their dog or cat and could benefit from vet care, grooming etc.). An application from the FWIPEI, Premier Craft Education $1000 cash prize for each for three applicants, and a 4-H pamphlet looking for a donation. Betty Sweet reported there is a hospital bursary for nurse RN, LPN, LAB, Physio and occupational person. Health Foundation is purchasing mannequins for nurses and doctors to practice on to keep their skills up. $50,000 was approved for the hospital to purchase a centrifuge machine for the lab. The machine separates liquids and solids for chemical, mineral and food industries. Plans were discussed for the 90th anniversary to be held Sept 8, 2018.Leila Lynch will cater lunch for $5 per person. There will be sandwiches, sweets, coffee and tea. Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor has been invited to attend, as well as WI board members. Meeting was adjourned with the Mijpah Benediction and then the members all went to the G&E Restaurant
for their traditional annual June supper.
The regular September monthly meeting of the KWI was held at the school at 2 p.m. In the absence of president Orell Smallman, vice president Fairley Yeo presided. The Mary Stewart Collect and mission statement were repeated, and the devotion was conducted by Susan
Smallman - All the Forms of love. God is love. Betty Sweet presented the program titled Canada Firsts, which included: - the longest paved TransCanada Highway, Adelaide Hoodless started the WI,- Victoria Order of Nurses, - Bombardies Co. Snowmobile Skidoo, - first Kerosine, Alexander Graham Bell Telephone, - CCU, Trivial Pursuit, - Hockey and Ice skating. Fairley Yeo presented information on PEIWI, Geneva King Memoriam. She served in Kenya, and for
two terms with the Status of Women. She received the Diamond Jubilee medal.
