An invitation was sent to attend the installation of Chancellor of P.E.I. Catherine Callbeck. Fairley Yeo will be able to attend. Minutes were read and approved. Very favourable comments were expressed by members and friends of the 90th anniversary celebration. Thank you notes were sent to all the entertainers and volunteers: Marinatha singing group, Corinne Strum, Carol Morgan, Larry Yeo, Kathleen Poirier, Margaret Sweet for table cloths and printing the history programs. The four girls (granddaughters of members) were very professional and given $20 each. Agriculture convener Fairley Yeo reported of how well wheat and barley turned out that hot dry summer, but potatoes didn’t do so well. Betty Sweet also reported sending a thank you note and $10 to Wayne Arsenault for cutting around posts and painting them. Everything looks really nice, she said. She also thanked guest speakers, national president Marie Kenny and Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor. The K WI was asked to provide lunch for the 45 participants of the bicycle tour Tip-to-Tip the Island on Saturday, October 6". Notes and News was distributed to members. Branch membership forms and conveners’ programs will be sent to headquarters before November 10. Helen Herring scholarship application was also part of correspondence. Barb Sweet presented the treasurers report. Betty Sweet resided as president in the absence of president Fairley Yeo. She read a Thanksgiving poem. Verna Smallman conducted the program on freezer tips with a quiz and Wanda Adams presented the devotion about skates, soap and spuds. Joan Smallman reported that two Christmas plaques were donated to KWI by Lois Smallman. Fairley Yeo received honours for being voted Volunteer of the Year 2018. Wanda Adams said containers for dropping off items for New To You shop are not panning out. Some clothing has been damaged by water. Correspondence included a letter from national president, Marie Kenny encouraging members to write about community builders. She plans to compile an interesting book. Three members will try to contribute to her book, namely Fairley Yeo, Betty Sweet and Orell Smallman. Betty Sweet reported that Catherine Callbeck was the ninth Chancellor of UPEI, the second woman to be elected to the legislative assembly, first female for minister of health and social services, and first woman elected as premier in Canada. Members extended thanks to Orell Smallman and Barb Sweet for all their hard work over the year, and Verna Smallman thanked her secret pal for the beautiful bouquet of flowers for her birthday in June.
