Sick committee reports sending a get well card to Eileen Smallman. Hospital Committee reported that Dr. Dickieson’s replacement will be there soon after he clears the immigration process. Dr. Pamela Hudson will be working out of the Western Hospital in Alberton. There is now a respiratory therapist in O’Leary Hospital. There are also four nurse practitioners, including one for all manors. Cascumpec hospital auxiliary has closed and $272.15 has been donated to O’Leary hospital auxiliary. It was moved by Orell Smallman and seconded by Isobel that a poinsettia plant be sent to Eileen, Susie, Marion, Lorraine and Harriet. Meeting adjourned and Susan donned her Santa hat and passed out gifts. Secret pals were revealed and chosen for next year. Members departed wishing each other a
blessed holiday season.
Wanda Adams hosted the New Year regular meeting at her home. Isobel Harris presented the devotion Should we celebrate holidays? New Years is considered a pagan holiday. Verna Smallman conducted the program Living Well Despite Stress. There is short-term and long-term stress, the latter being the hardest on the body. Stress is a normal physical response to events we have no power over. Exercise is the best stress reducer and using the five senses can help de- stress yourself. Fairley filled out a form regarding ways to promote food products, agriculture and fisheries encouraging awareness to the public. Gardens, vegetables, open farm days, lobster supper and Burger Love inform the Food Awareness Act. There will be age-friendly town hall meetings at six communities in January and February. Fairley presented the breakdown of how Seniors’ Secretariat grant of $3,700 would be spent which included finishing the panel and the 90th anniversary, among others. Orell Smallman made a motion and Betty Sweet seconded that all outstanding bills be paid. No report from school committee as it was shut for the winter. Hospital convener, no report. Fairley contacted Carter Jeffery re-panel pictures. Possible date to meet with members is January 23 at Fairley’s home. Henry Dunsmore will assist Carter. January 17 is the date to meet with Kathleen Poirier at Fairley’s home. She has offered to assist with the KWI history. Program for the year will be planned at Orell Smallman’s February 5. Correspondence included Founders Day workshop February 13, as well as Women in Agriculture Award and the district community convention to be planned for date in January.
