rather than the O’Leary School that year. Fairley read Marion Luxton’s citation and now it will be placed in the WI memorial book. The KWI bylaws will be reviewed at March meeting. The meeting adjourned with members singing Let Me Call You Sweetheart, a love song to celebrate Valentines’ Day. And when in March the Coronavirus (now called the Covid-19) was declared a pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO), the ladies cancelled their April and May regular meeting at the school. Everything was on hold now. Covid 19 made the rules. People were only allowed to be in groups of five. At times, only within your own home. Travelling
wasn’t done outside the province except for essential workers.
Finally, on June 1, members of the KWI got together for a meeting at the Knutsford community centre. Fifteen people were allowed to meet as long as they kept a six feet distance and wore masks. President Fairley Yeo thanked Orell Smallman, Verna Smallman and Barb Sweet for helping make masks for P.E.I. seniors. A three-way partnership between the QEH Foundation, the PEIWI and the PEI Mask-Aide worked together to sew fabric masks of 100 percent cotton. Elastics and stainless-steel pieces enclose on the bridge of the nose. Margarete Hutchinson sent the kits from Summerside and picked up the finished masks from Chelsey Smallman in Summerside. Masks were available for purchase online through the QEH and proceeds went to support medical equipment for the hospital. The Knutsford WI by-laws were read and Orell Smallman moved that the minutes be accepted as read and Barb Sweet seconded it. Correspondence consisted of a package from the monks who kindly sent a disposable mask to every WI member across the Island, from Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society of P.E.I. (GEBIS). Agriculture convener Fairley Yeo reported on the Cattlemen’s Trade partner, Lowes Co. on beef and cattle. The trade deals may be terminated. Barb Sweet gave the convener report on Water Awareness. Canada is second to the U.S.A. in the highest amount of water used. Water must be used carefully. Ways to cut down are: using low flush toilets, don't let the water run when brushing your teeth, using barrels to collect rainwater for gardens, and reducing,
repairing, and retrofitting.
The annual meeting in September of the KWI was held at the community centre with Verna Smallman as hostess. Eight members answered roll call by paying their yearly $10 dues. Minutes
of the June minutes were read and adopted. Susan Smallman, chair of the nominating committee,
