ST. JOHN 'S WOMAN'S AUXILIARY AND ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN CRAPAUD, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND St. John's Branch of Woman's Auxiliary was organized at the Rectory on January 22, 1907 with the officiers as follows:- President:- Mrs. Cornelius E. Lowther Vice-Pres:- Mrs. Robert Moore Sec*y Treas :- Hattie Moore Dorcas Sec'y:- Mrs. Robert Rogerson RECTOR :- Rev.J.W. Godfrey Monthly meetings to be held on the first tuesday of each month, sewing meetings on Tuesday Afternoon of each week. This is the inscription on the fly leaf of the Ledger which began on that date. A foot note was added," Shortly after Organization Miss Hattie Moore left for Western Canada and Miss Lizzie MacKinnon was appointed Sec 'y Treasurer in her place". Elizabeth (Lizzie) MacKinnon, a school teacher, who later in life married Thomas H. Best , continued to hold that position until 1968, when she resigned because of ill health having held the same office for over sixty years. She, with Mrs. Wrixon , a Rector's wife, were our earliest Life Members. Before the change over from W.A . to A.C.W ., several others were made Life Members. During the years of World War 1 our W.A . did not function regularly, b ut in March 1919, it was re-organized and has carried on ever since. War Memorial plaques have been placed in the Church following both World Wars and Korean War to honor the men and women, adherents of St. John's, who also served in them, also one for the Countess of Westmoreland and her daughter, Lady Fane , who so generously gave land, money, Altar Linen and Communion Wessels, Bibles and Books towards establishing our first Parish Church. The making of handicrafts and plans made for a bazaar at that first meeting have continued dowra through the £ears. While Missions have always had first priority, the Church in general and Parish have been assisted. Some of the projects undertaken past and present, have been Sunday School by Radio, Bales, Refugees, adopted children, altar Linen, choir gowns, Hymn Books, Prayer Books, maintenance and alterations in the Rectory, Prayer Partners and many others. Money has been raised the same through bazaars, teas and suppers. The b iggest difference is in the large amount necessary to meet committments as an example: In 1911 when the W.A . paid the Rector's Stipend quarterly it was only $12.50 or $50.00 yearly. For years we have united with obher Denominations for the World Day of Prayer and Q$B&$r services. Since the National Board has Integrated into General Synod , we get our projects and advice from the D.C.S . and the A.C.W. Diocesan Board of P. E.I , while belonging to the Diocesanof Nova Scotia . The P.E.I. Board was organ¬ ized in I898 and is seperate from the N.S. A.C.W. Board . The President og the P.E.I. Board at present is Mrs. Ella Sherren , a member of St. John's A.C.W. She is the second member of St. John*s to serve in this position (13)
