Due to the faot that the early reoords have been lost,no accurate aooount of offioers and work accomplished can be given.It is known that our W.A . was first organized ' in 1908 with Mrs.uharles Woodman the first president.On Sept 20th ^9^0 a spedial meeting was held at the home of Mrs .Wiliard Waugh.the former Lizzie Dyer ,grand-daughter of Rev, Robert Dyer , the first missionary reotor.^he meeting was in honor of the 75 th anniversary of the founding of the W.A » In Canada .Other presidents have been,Mrs."illard Waugh»Mrs, Herbert Champion , Miss Maud ^yer^Mrss Eva Dyer, Mrs . Mary Lewis , Mrs . Clayton Travers and Mrs . Waldo Matthews .Among the secretaries were,#rs. Charles Woodman ,i-iaud Dyer,Cathy Woodman,Mrs.W.J. Phillips, Mrs .Wiliard Oulton and Mrs .Hftrbert Campbell,who became secretary in 1958, In 1930 the w.A, Had twenty-one enrolled members,but as years went by the membership waned.The pledge in 1928 was sixty jptipai axgfcdc dollars,it was raised in 1956 to sixty-eight dollars.Meeting the pledge was not easy, and year after year money was borrowed and returned after the fall sale. Some of the Dorcas secretaries were,Mrs. ohn Dunn, Mrs . John MaoRae , Mrs . Ed . Lewis,and for many years Mrs . Ralph Hayner ,all these women did wonderful work.Every year quilts were made,sooks,caps,mittens,scarves and babjres layettes provided for Indian schools and needy people. A few peopiq still remember the missionary zeal,the dedication of the leaders of the I930fs.rhe quality of the meetings with prayers and study,and the roll call answered by a verse of scripture,was only fully appreciated when members moved from Alberton and attended meetings elsewhere 1then the standard set by people like the Dyer sisters and the Woodman's was realized. There was the thank offering,cent a week,boot and blanket fund,member¬ ship fees,self denial.Sunshine boxes to the slok.Lettle Vincent,an invalid for years was remembered with a card each monthifollowing her death Mrs .Dawsom kuigley was remembered and later Cathy Woodman.The Sowers boy a German refugee was adopted,along with the New London W.A . and he and his family received boxes several times a year.Donations were made to C.A.H.E.In I96I,' 200 of the Primate1 s Prayer Bards were bought and distributee during a family visitation.Used Christmas cards and stamps were also collected for mission work.Money was raised with afternoon teas.There were silent food sales,pantry sales,and always the big fa41 Christmas sale,featuring aprons and other hand made Items,as well as the tempting goodies sac xkxx to eat. Some of the Interesting notations in the existine notes are,The Baptist churol was used for services following the loss of the church by fire in 1926. A W. A. meeting was held in the new ohurch on July I5»I929.At the November meeting in 1929 It was decided to giveW-R^v. W.J. Phillips a private Communion set on the occasion of his ordination.At the January II meeting in 1932,the president Mrs . Herbert Champion suggested that the United and Presbyterian church women be Invited to join us on that day in prayers for all over the world.In March of the same year Miss Eva ^* ■P«M« i $h?.
