THE PARISH REGISTERS
The first of the four parish registers is a 100 page volume 18x12 inches, with St. Thomas Church, New London stamped on the cover. The first entry is that of a baptism:
Abigail, daughter of Peter and Margaret Cochrane of Malpeque, born
March 29, 1832, baptized January 8, 1833. T. H. Walpole.
The old register was used for half a century, but few entries were made in it until the incumbency of William Meek. A transcript of this register containing as well the New London entries from the St. Eleanor’s register, was made in 1911 by James B. Millman. The original
volume is in a dilapidated condition.
The second register was begun in 1883 and continued to be used until 1939. The third register contains entries from 1939 to 1954, and the fourth has been in use since 1954.
