Starting from the years 1810»- 1812 the district was rapidly settled by people, who were, with few exceptions, of Highland Scottish origin. Among the clans represented were: - MacKay, Campbell, MacLean, Ferguson, MacQuarrie, MacDousall, MacNevin, Shaw,

MacKinnon, and MacCalder. Other settlers were

named Merchbank, Lane, Patrick. Beer, Creamer, Lam~ .‘
