It is good to record here that the old mill and farm property is still owned by members of the Dixon family. PIONEER GRIST MILL - At an early date, probably 1825, a small grist mill was established on the stream below DeSable school. Early accounts identify it as Todds Corn Mill and later, as owned by MacQuarrie. Remains of the old dam may be found some seventy-five years below the bridge. SAW MILL - A water power saw mill owned by the Holm family from the early days and later by John MacLean , operated in DeSable until the 1950*8. This mill was also equipped to match and plane lumber, saw shingles and crush grain. SHOEMAKER - David Holm , skilled shoemaker from Pirth of Forth, Scotland , 1819, built his cabin and shop beside the river near where the house of Russell v —
